Holiday Cheer

Forgive me, but I digress.

This season I am helping to sponsor the international adoption of a child with Down's Syndrome through an organization called Reese's Rainbow. There are many families who want to adopt, but the costs can be prohibitive and there are currently 200 children around the world waiting for families. Reese's Rainbow is a a registered 501(c)3 charity which promotes and facilitates the international adoption and rescue of children with Down's Syndrome in particular. While it is a faith-based organization, it is not legally affliliated with any church, there are no faith based restrictions on the donations and families of all faiths are welcome to adopt.

During the Christmas Angel Tree project, the charity receives donations from people of all faiths all over the world. So even if you don't celebrate Christmas your gift can still save a life.

So if you were thinking of getting me a present (or even if you weren't!), the best gift you could possibly give me is to help a child who desperately needs a home.

  1. THANK YOU FOR THIS!!

I have a 2 yo with Down Syndrome. We had no notice. Long story as to why. Anyhow, my sister had a Down Syndrome child (both TS21) so I had no qualms about my child.

Doctors were freaked that I was not freaked, another long story :) However, while my infant was in ICU, I went to library to read up on what I could before he came home.

It was heartbreaking. There are probably more books out there than was available at my local library, but none that I found were positive and upbeat.

I threw away the books (well, not literally as they were not mine) and loved and played with him like all my other children.

One day, I'm going to write and illustrate a kids book that is for the parents so they have a positive way to talk to their other children in the situation I found myself in. I already wrote the book and started on illustrations, but had computer crash this weekend :( Will start over.

It is so important for people to be positive and give positive homes. More and more, people are learning that Down Syndrome children understand better than was supposed in earlier years.

I'm crying happy tears because of your giving in this manner. So, thank you for bringing this to people's awareness, and thank you everyone who helps with this, or with any family, as they work hard to give their Down Syndrome child a happy home.
